It’s something we tell our sellers all of the time: “Imagine that your house is a coffee pot on the shelf at Target.” Obviously, we know that your home is much more than that you you, but it is a helpful reminder that our goal is to sell your HOUSE (not home) and that we need to market it to do that.
Whether you are shopping for a coffee maker, canned goods, clothing or any other item in a retail store, chances are that you are going to pick the best looking one of whatever that item is that you are shopping for. Rarely as a consumer do you choose the box that is torn and re-taped, the dented can or the shirt with the stain on it. Shoppers will look through several items to find the best-looking box or packaging available.
Home buyers will do the same thing. They want a house that shows the best, needs the least amount of work and is properly priced to call their own.
What does that mean for sellers? It means that the minute that you decide to sell your home, it becomes a HOUSE. No longer can you think of it as the place that you raised your children, celebrated holidays and enjoyed during your ownership. It is now just like that coffee maker on the shelf at Target. As a team, our goal is to make your home show its best to shoppers. How do we do that:
Neutralize – If you jumped on the dark wall trend, let the kids choose their own paint color for their room or just need to freshen up your decor neutral tones are the way to go. We want buyers to imagine living in your house and moving in with their belongings easily.
De-Personalize – If your home features a “Wall of Fame” in the hallway with school photos, your wedding photos and holiday portraits now may be the time to pack them away for the move. We don’t want distractions when buyers are touring your home, and wondering if they know someone in the photos on your wall is not how we want them to spend their time there.
Clean, Clean, Clean – If you only do one thing before we list your home for sale, cleaning is the top priority. Buyers will be looking at each room of your home when they visit. Make sure that they show their best.
De-Clutter – If you’ve outgrown your home, that is not a feature that we want to showcase to potential buyers. Take the time before we list your home to donate, store or pack away unused items. If you need help with planning a Garage Sale we can assist with that too.
After you have completed the process of preparing your home for buyers, it is time for us to come in and work our magic with outstanding photos, marketing materials and promotion to get them in your door. Together we will work to get your house sold in the shortest amount of time possible with the least amount of stress to you.
