Fun things to do around St Louis this spring
Once the cold of winter leaves the air, our area provides many opportunities to get out and enjoy the warmth of spring. Below is a list of a few things you may want to enjoy.
Grants Farm -A popular St. Louis destination since 1954, Grant’s Farm is the 281-acre ancestral home of the Busch family, named for Ulysses S. Grant who originally worked a portion of the land. Grant’s Farm celebrates America’s past with a commitment to the future. Honoring both the 18th president of the United States and the Busch family legacy, the Farm is a refuge for more than 900 animals, representing more than 100 different species.
City Museum – Housed in the 600,000 square-foot former International Shoe Company, the museum is an eclectic mixture of children’s playground, funhouse, surrealistic pavilion, and architectural marvel made out of unique, found objects. The brainchild of internationally acclaimed artist Bob Cassilly, a classically trained sculptor and serial entrepreneur, the museum opened for visitors in 1997 to the riotous approval of young and old alike.
Turtle Playground – Rather than swings or slides, the park consists solely of concrete reptiles, far larger than their real life counterparts. Kids and (limber) adults alike can climb and frolic to their heart’s content in this odd sculpture garden beside a busy Midwestern thoroughfare.
The Magic House – The Magic House, St. Louis Children’s Museum will engage all children with hands-on learning experiences that spark imagination, pique curiosity, enhance creativity and develop problem-solving skills within a place of beauty, wonder, joy and magic.
The Weldon Spring Site Interpretive Center represents a window to the past and the U.S. Department of Energy’s commitment to the future through long-term surveillance and maintenance of the Weldon Spring Site and a strong community partnership. The Center, dedicated on August 5, 2002, houses exhibits that present a photographic history of the Weldon Spring area, the towns that once occupied this area, and the site’s historical contributions.
Lewis and Clark Boat House and Nature Center – Full-scale replicas of boats used by Lewis & Clark, plus exhibits detailing their 1804 expedition.
Expedition of St. Charles has put together a modern museum to interpret the Lewis and Clark’s experience in St. Charles as well as the Corps of Discovery in general. The lower level of the Boat House is home to full size replicas of a keelboat and two pirogues with workspace and displays. The lower level has a flow through design, permitting the boats to be easily moved and preventing damage to the building from floodwaters.
August A. Busch Memorial Conservation Area
The MO Department of Conservation encourages recreational use of the area by the public, while furnishing fish and wildlife with the resources necessary to be healthy and abundant. We encourage you to walk the hiking trails, drive the auto tour, photograph the wildlife, or simply sit under a tree and enjoy the sights and sounds of the outdoors.
