Light Up the Night: Where to Watch Fireworks in the St. Charles Area This 4th of July

Independence Day is just around the corner, and there is no better place to celebrate America's birthday than right here in our vibrant, historic community! If you are looking for the absolute best views, the liveliest atmospheres, and the brightest skies this 4th of July weekend, St. Charles County and its surrounding areas have you completely covered.

Grab your lawn chairs, pack a blanket, and head to these prime local spots to catch the spectacular holiday displays.

1. St. Charles Riverfest (Frontier Park)

If you want the ultimate 4th of July experience, Historic Downtown St. Charles is the place to be. Held right along the banks of the Missouri River in Frontier Park, Riverfest is a beloved two-day tradition packed with live music, carnival rides, craft vendors, and delicious food.

  • The Drone Show: Kick off the holiday early on Friday, July 3rd at 9:20 PM. Instead of standard pyrotechnics, hundreds of synchronized drones will light up the night sky over the river, forming massive, patriotic designs.

  • The Parade: Don't miss the classic Riverfest Parade marching down Main Street at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 4th.

  • The Grand Finale Fireworks: The traditional, massive fireworks display launches over the riverfront on Saturday, July 4th at 9:20 PM.

Pro-Tip: Parking downtown fills up incredibly fast. Skip the traffic stress by utilizing the city’s free shuttle service running from noon to 11:00 PM on both days. You can catch a ride from the St. Charles Convention Center, Duchesne High School, or the South Main Street parking lot.

2. O'Fallon Heritage & Freedom Fest (Ozzie Smith Sports Complex)

Looking for a massive celebration with big-name entertainment? Just down the road, O’Fallon hosts one of the largest multi-day festivals in the state. From July 1st through July 4th, families can enjoy an expansive carnival, midway games, and incredible food.

  • The Music: Catch free concerts by country stars LOCASH and Lauren Alaina on July 3rd, and the legendary rock band KANSAS on July 4th.

  • The Fireworks: You get two chances to see the sky light up! The Jena "Dusty" Mielke Fireworks Spectaculars take place on Friday, July 3rd at 10:15 PM and Saturday, July 4th at 9:30 PM. Free parking and shuttles are available from Fort Zumwalt North High School and Veritas Christian Academy on both nights.

3. Wentzville’s July 4th Celebration (Progress & Rotary Parks)

For a classic, community-focused hometown feel, head out west to Wentzville. They are going all out to celebrate America's 250th birthday this year!

  • The Schedule: The day kicks off with the annual Fourth of July Parade at 10:00 AM starting at the Wentzville Ice Arena. Afterward, enjoy a free swim at the Progress Park Pool.

  • The Fireworks: Bring your lawn chairs and blankets to Rotary Park or Progress Park. The sky-high fireworks show launches at 9:30 PM on Saturday, July 4th.

Quick Tips for a Perfect Firework Outing

  • Claim Your Spot Early: For prime viewing at any of these parks, plan to set up your blankets by late afternoon.

  • Support Local First: Before the fireworks start, take a stroll through the local shops or grab food from local food trucks and nearby restaurants. Many stay open late to welcome festival-goers!

  • Pack the Essentials: Don't forget bug spray, plenty of water, and hoodies if the temperature drops a bit after sunset.
