As the cold days of winter come to an end, now is the time to prepare your home for the warm days ahead. Whether you are ready to sell your home, or just want to make sure that is is functioning its best, these are some things you can do to make sure that your home is ready for spring:
Clean Your Gutters: Over the fall and winter the wind, gravity and animals bring leaves, sticks and other debris in to fill your gutters. Full gutters can mean clogged downspouts which will cause water to overflow and spill out to the perimeter of your home which can lead to water in your basement. Check gutters now before the rainy days of March and April arrive.
Change Your Filters: While this should be done every 30 days, the changes of seasons is a great time to swap out your dirty furnace filter for a fresh one. This is also a good time to change your water filter.
Service Your Lawn Mower: When your grass is long and ready to be cut is the absolute worst time to discover that your lawn mower needs service. Bring it out of the garage and change the oil, give it a tune up and sharpen the blade now before your grass starts growing. If you have it serviced professionally, the service center will be less busy now before the grass cutting season begins.
Clean Outdoor Furniture: Snow, rain and the elements can bring havoc to your outdoor furniture (especially the cushions). If you did not cover your furniture in the fall, now is the tine time to spray it down and clean it to make sure it shows its best before you are using it and enjoying the outdoors.
Refresh Your Landscaping: Trim your trees, bushes and ornamental grasses. Plant bulbs. Freshen your mulch and give your lawn some much needed fertilizer to bring them back to life after the long, cold winter.
Clean Your Windows: With the days getting longer, having clean windows will allow the natural light to flow in and fill your home with sunshine.
Prep Your Grill: Whether you prefer gas or charcoal, now is the time to get your grill ready for the season. Clean the grates, check hoses for damage, scrape away any rust that has developed and clean it inside and out.
While this isn’t a comprehensive list, these few things can help you to prepare your home for Spring and get it looking and working its best.
